Dark Dopplegangers! (13) +1
Formula for cool anti-hero type character:
Palette swap protagonist to black, make some (very) superficial modifications, and either have them endlessly prattle on about how they're the strongest creation in existence or make them completely mute.
It seems every franchise nowadays is guilty of this. Well, it's certainly uninspired, but the anti-heroes do usually end up being much cooler than the actual heroes!

And it gets really bad when the dark doppleganger actually successfully frames the hero for their bad deeds. Shadow and Shadow Mario are good examples. . .is everyone in video games completely colorblind?
Black... does this mean Waluigi counts, too? After all, he wears black overalls.
The "black" color is just a correlate, not a hard and fast rule.
Even if he doesn't have black clothing, Wario himself certainly counts as an evil doppleganger of Mario when he first appeared in Super Mario Land 2. When you fight him, he even has souped up versions of your powerups. He was the main villain, though. And since then, he's become his own unique entity, has a unique personality, and gotten his own unique set of skills and powers. . .
Waluigi would, I guess, be Luigi's evil doppleganger. . .although he's really only appeared in sports/party games, we've never really seen him "fight", and has no real backstory, so it's hard to even classify him as that. . .

Also, "red" seems to be a good color for anti-heroes. . .I'm thinking of Knuckles and Proto Man at the moment. Although, I wouldn't call them strict dopplegangers like Shadow or Bass, just anti-heroes.
Actually, I just realized that Sonic and Mega Man seem to share a lot of similar roles. . .with similar colors, even:
Sonic = Mega Man (blue hero)
Shadow = Bass (black doppleganger)
Knuckles = Proto Man (red anti-hero)
Dr. Robotnik = Dr. Wily (moustachioed mad scientist villain; both even have their own characteristic, upgradable saucer)
Tails = Rush (sidekick that helps you fly around)
Amy = Roll (female counterpart)
Just an observation. . .

Oh yeah, and something else I think I should mention:
It gets even worse, when the doppelgänger gets another doppelgänger for himself... (Shadow and Mephiles...)

Samus's texture is cool.
