Okay, so while pretty much all of these rules have been in effect since the site's creation, they've never actually been spelled out, as far as I've seen.
So here is a nice little list of rules. FOLLOW THEM OR PERISH.
(Copypasta'd from Starmen.net, and edited to suit BSS.)

1. BE NICE!

Try to be civil to other forum members. The moderators will be the ultimate arbiters of what constitutes inappropriate behavior around here. Repeated uncivil behavior will result in punishment, and ultimately a ban.

2. Don't go over the top with swearing or other non-family-friendly things. Swearing will be tolerated more here on BSS than on most other forums, but try not to go crazy. Sexual innuendos follow the same rule. However, pornographic content will NOT be tolerated. Any of that will be deleted ASAP, and will result in a warning the first time, a temporary ban the second time, and perhaps a permanent ban for repeated offenses.

3. Use discretion when creating/posting in controversial topics.

Most forums on the Internet have a difficult time discussing topics like religion and politics. Please use discretion when creating/posting in topics of this nature. Be civil, try to understand and respect what the other person is saying, and don’t flame/troll. The moderators will ultimately decide what is appropriate here.

4. No begging for attention.

Yes, we know you want us to see your snapshots and/or stages. There is no need to constantly beg for us to look at them. If you want to draw attention to your work, try making a thread in the Snapshots or Stages boards specifically for your own stuff. You can also use your forum signature to show some of your shots, and maybe provide a link to your galllery. Don't ask for people for attention in posts or comments. Even things like, "If you give me points, I'll return the favor." That's nice, but you don't really need to say that. By doing that, you're asking for attention, even if it's in a less direct way. Begging for attention is annoying to other members. While it's not something that would deserve punishment, it will probably result in many members not liking you as much, which may actually get your shots looked at less.

5. Respect new users.

We were all new once. Please extend a certain amount of respect and civility to new forum users. Please don’t use derogatory terms like “n00b,” “newb,” etc. In return, new users, do not take advantage of this respect you are being extended.

6. Don’t abuse the forum functions.

Don’t harass other users in private messages. Don’t spam a person’s inbox with messages.

7. No advertising.

Don’t make a post or new topic to direct traffic to your website, ebay auction, etc. The only place you are permitted to advertise is in your signature.

8. No backseat moderating.

Don’t tell other people they’re breaking the rules, doing something wrong, or that a topic will be locked. If you have a problem with someone else’s behavior, PM a mod and they will make the decision.

9. No trolling.

Trolling includes flaming, goading other users, fakeposting, and so on. Gimmick accounts will be banned on sight. Moderators have the final say as to what is trolling.

10. Respect the moderators and admins.

If a moderator asks you to do something either in public or by private message, do it. Don’t argue with them or try to debate the rules, or you will be punished even further. If you disagree with how a moderator is doing things, send an e-mail to Ryantm or DavidEGrayson, the current forum administrators.

FORUM TABOOS

There are certain activities and posting methods that both the forum users here and the moderators don’t appreciate. Avoid doing the following:

* Contentless and stupid posts (4chan memes, anything nonsensical [The Randomness Thread is a bit of an exception to this])
* Inappropriate grammar (“u” instead of “you”, etc – won’t be punished, but users will look down on you for it)
* Double posting (if by mistake, inform a mod so it can be deleted [you can also delete your own post if no one else has already posted after you. Hit "Edit" and check the "Delete post" box above the text field. Hit "Submit", and then "Yes" when asked if you want to delete.)
* Bumping old topics (more than three weeks old) for no good reason, or bumping a topic to keep it at the top of the forum index.
* Begging for anything (unless it's very important; you can use the Problems board for help)
* “Namedrop” threads (making a thread directed at a specific user that could’ve been done in a private message)
* Quoting a very large post without selectively editing it
* Making an “I’m leaving/back” post in random topics. (We have a thread for this.)

Forum Mods:

If you have questions or need help, feel free to either use the Problems board, or PM one of the mods.
(I'm not 100% sure how often Ppv and Lsu check the site, but I'm here almost everyday.)

Nice work kerkec.

Although maybe you shouldve siad something at the end like:
If you have any qestions ask a moderator by PM.

And seeing as this is for mostly new users maybe you should name who the mods are?

Sounds good, Kerkec. :D
Though, as far as double posting goes, I'd say it's not a problem if what you're trying to say requires some kind of imminent attention that you wouldn't get from an edit, even if the last post was only a couple of days ago (and given this site's posting speed...).

Oh, and yeah, you should probably rephrase the rule pl0x pointed out. Just a little. ;)

Not really a question about this rule on the forums, but I have a stage that acts as a tribute to a site and therefore I posted a link to it in that stage's description. Does that violate this rule, or one similar to it outside the forums?

No, that's fine.
You're not begging anyone to go there, so there's no problem.

Well, as a snapshot mod, you can't give out any punishment other than denying features. Of course, you could just PM Ppv, Lsu, or me if anything goes wrong...but everyone can do that.

Besides, that sort of power would probably only be used when someone's already breaking rules, so what are the odds that they'll listen anyway?
